Antigua & Barbuda Citizenship by Investment

Antigua & Barbuda has recently launched its Citizenship by Investment Programme and Windward Estate is an approved project of the Programme.

The Program was established following parliamentary assent to the Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Act, 2013. The Regulations regarding Citizenship by Investment in Antigua and Barbuda are contained in Section 6 of the Citizenship by Investment Act, 2013.

To qualify for citizenship, the primary applicant must be over 18 years of age, meet the application requirements and select one of the following three investment options:

• National Development Fund
• Real Estate
• Business Investment

Antigua and Barbuda is an independent Commonwealth state in the Eastern Caribbean. With some 365 beaches of clean turquoise waters, the lush tropical islands of Antigua and Barbuda are an inviting paradise and considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. As a result, tourism is the key driver of GDP and generates around 60% of the island’s income, with key target markets being the U.S. and Europe.

Antigua and Barbuda is a member of the United Nations, the British Commonwealth, CARICOM and the Organisation of American States (OAS) among many other international organisations. Holders of the Antigua and Barbuda passport enjoy visa free travel to approximately 130 countries, including the U.K. and the countries of the Schengen area.

The Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) was established by the Honaable Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and is the Government authority responsible for processing all applications for Agent’s Licenses, and all applications for Citizenship by Investment by applicants and their family.

To ensure citizenship in Antigua and Barbuda, applicants must be over 18 years of age and meet the requirements below:

• Applicant must have no criminal record, as proven by police certificate.

• Applicant must meet specific passport and visa requirements which can be found on the CIP website.

The Citizenship by Investment Programme also requires a recognised investment, the most relevant being:

• Investment in a property with a value of over (USD) $400,000 in a pre-approved real estate development. The investment in this property must be kept for a minimum of five years or until after developments have been made that the investment was intended for. Property registration, due diligence fees, processing fees and taxes must be paid in addition to the property purchase.

Persons will be deemed as residents if they have permanent residence in the country or are present for 183 days of the year.
